When Things Fall Apart, Try These 3 things to help you through it.

We mess up.
We fail.
Sometimes despite our best efforts- everything falls apart.
More than once, I’ve made a big decision thinking this was the correct path for me or my family- and ended up with a massive face plant. At first this was very discouraging to me. I hated failing and would do everything I could to avoid it.
But failing in life is a part of life.
It’s what you do with that failure that matters.
Here are three things to do to help you process through this rough patch.
1. Get Your Bearings

Take some time to assess the fallout.
What happened?
Where are you now?
What part did you play in the failure?
What part is not yours to own?
Take a deep breath, go for a walk, and sort this out. Get your bearings together so you know what the lay of the land looks like from here.
2. Take One Next Step

Realizing where you are now at and what happened you can think about what is next.
Not the next 10 steps.
Not even the next 3 steps.
Just one next step.
What can you do now to start moving forward?
3. Tell Someone

We have a tendency to hide our failures out of embarrassment. Our pride can get the best of us here.
Talk it out with your friend or partner. Share with them what happened, what failed and where you are at now- and even what your next first step is. This will help you process through what happened, and where you are- and where you are going. It will also help you realize you are not alone- and maybe this was not as big a deal as you think it may have been.
Whatever failure you are facing now- there are steps you can take to move ahead and learn from it. Start now!
