When I was looking at a different position, and considering the advantages and disadvantages of working remotely- I knew I needed to consult with people who are better at change than I am.  There are a million different blogs, and even more self-help books to help you navigate change, career choices, and how to interpret the various emotions that come with it.

In all my reading, these three were probably the most helpful at pointing me in the right direction.

1. What Color Is Your Parachute; Richard Bolles

This classic was written over 50 years ago!  It has been helpful in all sorts of occupations dilemmas- from searching for your first position, recovering from a layoff, or dreaming of a career change.  I found the workbook to also be insightful in applying some of the principles and way to get to know yourself better.

2. Next! The Power Of Reinvention In Life And Work; Joanne Lipman

3. Resurface: A Guide To Navigating Life’s Biggest Transitions; Cassidy Krug

This one goes a bit deeper than just career transitions (though this is covered well in this book too).  She goes through all kinds of transitions we may face in life and how to deal with them constructively.  It’s a refreshing read, full of stories from those who have gone through very difficult things in life and how they got through them, or are still moving through them.  A lot this book can be applied to many difficult transitions in life- so keep it handy, and be ready to go deep.
